That's right, I was a Hospital Corpsman quite a few years back. Was stationed at NAVHOSPPORTSVA. My husband was an OS2 stationed on the USS JFK CV-67, NOB Norfolk.

So, what's your rate? I would ask you where you are stationed, but it would be too dangerous for you to reveal that right now.

I was in the middle of a national park so no fear of neighbors but like I said on my military thread I just got a cell call to report back to duty immediately. It looks like a mix between a Tornado landslide and earthquake hit the the little area behind the camp ground.

OH SO VERY COOL Aegis!!!

You should see if you can extend your "shield"....

What I mean is, as an officer, what if someone shoots at your partner or anyone else close to you.... you could just reach over and touch the person and extend your shield around him so you wouldn't have to be TOO obvious about using your shield, ya know what I mean... you could even make a show of pushing or pulling them "out of the way" so it looks like they really were "missed"

Well you were very very correct about the black hole. I am not sure if i managed to create one because i couldn't see it but i could feel it if that makes sense. It was like I could sense its gravitational field because it was at that point generating its own field independent of me and it was cool for like half a second before all hell broke loose. The ground started to tear up under my feet the trees were being pulled towards me and the air being pulled in like a tornado. It was only open for 2 or 3 seconds but it caused severe damage and when i managed to close it it caused a nasty shock wave that sent me flying. I think I broke a rib or two and I got a pretty bad gash on my side from a piece of sheet metal. I won't be trying that again and i know better then to try fusion the only way I would do that is if I was outside a reactor and I was jump starting the inside of it. I guess there is no guarantee exploring your abilities is safe or easy.

I could potentially create fusion by inceaseing the gravity of hydrogen and helium until the ignite in a artificial sun.

Um...bad idea. Think 4000 kelvins. Then think 3720C. If you still don't understand, start asking what 6728 degrees Fahrenheit can do. That's somewhere along the lines of 'instant vaporization' and would be very detrimental to your health and the health of everybody else within several hundred meters or more.

A black hole is also a bad idea. Not only would you not be able to control it, but you wouldn't be able to see it at all. If it's big enough to see, then you're already dead. Even a microscopic one could be deadly.

Do some nullo training. You could help Burt Rutan create commercially viable interstellar travel. Scientists wouldn't have to send their 0-G experiments in multi-million dollar trips to do some mold tests.

You could increase the gravity of Luna so that it would hold an atmosphere and be habitable for human beings. You could possibly bring Triton into a terracentric orbit so that we could colonize it.

I can't believe I posted that.

Must've had a brain fart and erased the memory. Or maybe a flash of sanity.

It may be just me, but I'm fairly certain the Constitution does not specify that the Bill of Rights was only intended for 'humans.' My opinion, though.

Umm...since we're being shut down and all...and I wasn't here....could you tell me what your ability is, Ted? I'm having a heck of a time finding it.

Well I guess this just goes to show you if Jordan wants to contact you he can. I got out of the shower this morning and there is a letter sitting on the coffee table in my room with my name on it. NO ONE knows where I am and yet a evnvelope just appears in my room with my name on it. When I opened it all it said was "Jordan is very interested in your gift." How would Jordan know where I am much less what ability I have.

Just a quick update -- I think I may have an idea what ability I got. (and no, it's not about donuts!) I don't think I got a force field in the classical, Star Trek sense, but I think I've got something that will substitute for it just fine.

After two days of laying around the house like a lump, and then eating roughly 17 pounds of food in 6 hours, I felt the urge to work out. So I went down to the gym, and was on the handball court playing a short solo game. (Weight training is all well and good but frankly I get more use out of cardio -- I do a lot more running than lifting in my line of work)

I'm gonna blame it on my recent bout of "the flu", but I muffed up an easy shot, put too much english on the ball, and was going to take a speeding handball to the face as a result. Instead it got within about two inches of me and skewed off at a crazy angle. I told myself, "Self, looks like you got forcefields after all!" So, I did a little experimenting. (Not in the gym, though -- they have security cameras)

Back it my place, I tried layin on the floor, tossing a ball up, and seeing if it hit me. Every time, it veered off just before it hit me. Nifty, right? So I tried it with something heavier. (At first I was eyeing a 5-lb sack of flour, but then I pictured it veering off, hitting the floor and exploding.) Instead I grabbed this little sand-filled weight ball I bought in a moment of insanity. Thing weighs about 10 pounds. I laid on the floor, tossed it up, and as expected, it slid off course before it hit me. Weird thing is, when it did, I felt a flash of heat, like the heater kicked on. I checked, no, still set to AC. Tried it again, same thing -- bounced, and simultaneous hot flash. Seems like I was converting kinetic energy into thermal. Nifty.

Then I had a thought, based on something I read before -- I held the handball, threw the weight ball, and concentrated on moving the little ball instead of making heat. Worked better than I expected -- the little ball took off like it had rockets strapped to it. Tried it a couple times, till my nextdoor neighbor got peeved by the ball ricocheting off our shared wall and started pounding and yelling.

Had a bad moment, when I went to go shower up -- what if my ability keeps the water from hitting me? I guess I can take baths, but that means I come home from work stinky, instead of showering at the station. I concentrated on letting the water through, and got lucky. Showers are still available. (Though, when I let my concentration slip, it looked really neat with water flying all over the place instead of hitting me. Almost worth the amount of cleanup it took.)

So, in a nutshell, it seems like I got some sort of momentum-control. Gonna do a bit more experimentation and see what comes up.

You make a good point Aegis. Those who survive will continue to do what they would have done if they took the shot or not. Now, that's not saying I would have gone on to create a strange energy field, but the intentions are the same. People who use their abilities for evil had bad intentions from the start.

Navalman- I'm sure there is some way you could possibly even get promoted. But you might want to make sure that your superiors have the best in mind, and not trying to wage a war on the 4400 and pro+'s using promicin positives... then again if you deny whatever job they offer you you might disappear.

I'd hate to be in your shoes, it's a rough place your in.

Not military, but I am an active-duty police officer in a major metropolitan area. Obviously, I won't say where! There's a topic called "Blue and Green" about the why and how, but noon today was my 48th hour. Not sure yet what it is that I do, but it is, and always has been, my intent to use whatever ability I get "to serve and protect".
